Keeping the Martial Arts uniform clean and neat is an important part of Martial Arts training. A spotless, pressed uniform is one way Martial Artists show respect for their fellow students and their instructors.
The following tips will help you keep your white Martial Arts uniform looking its best.
1. When washing your uniform, do not use bleach (even color-safe bleach or bleach intended for white fabrics) or liquid fabric softeners, because these may make your white uniform gradually turn yellowish.
2. Avoid colored laundry detergents (liquid or powder) and stain removers, because these may also cause yellowing. If your uniform has a stain that won't come out with dye-free laundry detergent, consider taking it to a professional dry cleaner for assistance.
3. The water supply in some areas (for example, water with high iron levels) may make your white uniform gradually turn grayish. If this happens to you, take your uniform to a professional dry cleaner for help in restoring its original white color.
4. Be sure to take your uniform out of the dryer as soon as it is done drying, while the uniform is still slightly warm from the dryer, and hang it up right away. This helps keep wrinkles at bay. High quality uniforms (including the Sun Uniforms brand we offer on this site) are treated with a crease resistant finish so ironing is usually not necessary.
5. For a special occasion, such as competing in a tournament or a belt promotion, a gentle pressing with an iron will make your uniform look extra sharp.
6. Don't neglect the undershirt beneath your uniform top. It should be clean and white, too.
7. Many Martial Artist students find they need more than one uniform. One uniform can be in the laundry while you are wearing the other to class.
