Attention Stance

Attention Stance
Materials needed: none

Number of players: any

To play:

Show the children how to get into an attention stance (or a ready stance, a horse stance, etc.), and explain to them the importance of remaining still and focused when doing a stance.

Next, have all of the children, except the birthday child, line up in their attention stances. The birthday child will be the “smile maker”. The smile maker walks among the other children in their attention stances and makes faces at them, trying to get the children to smile or laugh or otherwise break out of their stance. The smile maker can not touch the other children, however (no tickling.) The last child left who maintained their stance without laughing or moving gets to be the next “smile maker.”

Tip: In between rounds, let the children jiggle and talk a bit, so they are able to hold still for the next round.
