Create and paint clay figures for a fun Martial Arts camp or party activity.
For this activity, you will need a set of Karate cookie cutters
, plus modeling clay and acrylic paints or permanent markers (available at craft stores) in a variety of colors.
Give each child some modeling clay (such as Sculpey brand oven-bake clay) and a Karate cookie cutter. Help each child to roll out their clay to approximately one-half inch, and then press the cookie cutter into the clay to form the shape. Transfer the clay shapes to a baking sheet and bake according to the clay package directions (usually about 15 minutes.) Remove the shapes to a cooling rack and allow them to cool for one hour until safe to handle. (This is a good time for the children to participate in other activities or have refreshments.)
Once the clay figures are cool, each child can paint or color their shapes as shown in the photo here. For example, they can paint their hair color, eye color, and current rank belt color on their figures.
The Martial Arts cookie cutters make boy shapes, but children can shape and add longer hair with the clay to create girl figures, too.
The children can bring their shapes home from a birthday party or Martial Arts camp as a favor or souvenir.
